Hardwood Install, Sand, and Finish in Long Valley, NJ
This floor was installed in a new home built on a horse farm in Long Valley NJ. The materials and layout were chosen prior to Artisan Wood Floors being brought on board.
Project Details:
We were asked to restore these historic heart pine floors and stairs in a large Victorian home in the Spring Garden neighborhood of Philadelphia during the summer of 2019. The floors which were circa 1880’s were in poor condition and needed to be refinished in order to both protect them and to bring them back to their former glory. Restoring floors of this age can be a painstaking process.
It’s difficult to remove existing finishes with our modern sanding equipment due to the floor not being flat and it’s important to strike a balance between flattening them and not removing too much of the actual material. This process involves a lot of hand sanding and hand scraping of the floor which requires intensive labor and significant attention to detail. Especially when a dark stain will be applied. In this case, the homeowner wanted to match the 2nd and 3rd floors and to that end, we made a number of samples applied directly to the floor. The color selected was Duraseal Royal Mahogany. We then applied an oil based sealer followed by 2 coats of an oil based polyurethane.
